Here's a link to an article about ski tips from ski professionals.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TRAVEL/getaways/12/04/9.ski.tips/index.html

Got a great tip of your own to add?

I would add:

Pack using your boots and helmet to protect fragile items.
If you bring fragile items or buy fragile souvenirs, wrap them in a sock or t-shirt and stuff them inside your boots or helmet. Virtually guarantees that they won't get broken. Empty souvenir beer cans fit nicely in the boot cuffs.

Don't take one of the CNN ski tips at face value -- the recommendation regarding airlines allowing two pieces of luggage for no additional fee.

Some airlines are starting to limit customers to one fee check-in piece of luggage. http://origin.mercurynews.com/travelheadlines/ci_8377789 Since airlines used to count the boot bag and ski bag as one piece of luggage, it will be intresting to see how this is applied (assuming it isn't repealed for competitive reasons).

At least for now, United says they are going to continue to count a ski bag and boot bag as one. That of course could change at any time but for now its still the case.

I also saw an article that US Air followed United's lead regarding the baggage charge.

Numerous ski clubs and councils are urging their members to contact the airlines and express their displeasure.
